Eric & Lori Bohman
Serving in
Kenya,
Africa
Eric and Lori have been missionaries with BIMI since 1992. They live in the rural town of Nyahururu where they have their largest church. Through the years, with the help of their national leaders, they have planted churches in the surrounding villages. They presently have fourteen churches and Bible studies with a total average of over 800 people each week.
Ministry Information
After Eric and Lori arrived in Kenya in the fall of 1994 and completed their language study, they moved to the small, rural town of Nyahururu to oversee the ministry that was started by former BIMI missionaries, Marc and Tina Deloach.
Through the years, the Lord has continued to bless the Bohman’s efforts by multiplying their ministry from just the one town church, Bible Baptist Church, to now fourteen churches and Bible study groups in the villages surrounding the town and going into the semi-desert areas of the North. Many of the leaders of these churches have come from the ministry of Jerry and Sheri Daniels who have ministered in Kenya for over 25 years. Eric, together with these national men, has helped to plant these new churches, which have since grown and planted additional churches and Bible study groups in other areas.
Two years ago, the Bohmans began working with the deaf and the hearing-impaired in their town and helped to start one of the first deaf churches in Kenya. The First Baptist Church for the Deaf was started officially in 2003. Since then, Eric, who is deaf in one ear and has learned some of the local sign language, and a deaf national have started Bible study groups in three deaf schools. Earlier this year, they helped to start a new deaf church in the town of Karatina.
Please be in prayer for the Bohmans as they continue to minister in their area. They look forward to starting two new churches this year and several Bible study groups. They plan on going on furlough in the summer of 2005.
Eric was born on August 17, 1970 at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. His father, an Air Force sergeant, and mother had been saved just a few months previously. Because of their strong desire to learn about God and have a Christian home, Eric was saved at the early age of four. When eight years old, Eric surrendered to the call of God to missionary service after hearing a sermon by Evangelist Tom Williams. His parents supported his calling and encouraged him to begin learning skills that would later equip him for service on the foreign field. At age ten, he began preaching in a neighborhood Bible club and on one of the church’s bus routes. As a teenager, he was a leader in his church’s youth group and had the privilege of going on a mission trip with his pastor and several of the youth to Togo, West Africa. It was on that trip that God confirmed in his heart that He had indeed called him to be a missionary and specifically to the continent of Africa. A couple years later, he enrolled in Hyles-Anderson College, majoring in Missions. During that time, he worked with construction crews and learned building skills, which he would later use in Africa. It was also at college where he met his lovely wife, and they were married in 1991. A year later, he graduated with his degree in Missions and was accepted by the mission board.
Lori’s testimony is similar to Eric’s. She too was reared in a Godly home and was saved at the age of four. During her childhood, her parents, who worked for the Sword of the Lord, gave her a burden for lost souls, and Lori frequently accompanied them on church visitation. Her family showed their dedication to the Lord by often taking their vacation times to visit Lori’s uncles who are missionaries in Mexico. It was on one of these trips when Lori felt God’s calling to missions. It was the common bond of missions, which brought Eric and Lori together in college. She later graduated from Trinity Baptist College with a degree in Elementary Education. God has blessed their home with four daughters: Erica, Deborah, Heidi, and Julia. Lori’s main ministry is being a wife and mother and home-schooling their children. She also works with the children’s classes in their churches, disciples lady converts, and holds monthly ladies’ meetings.
