Through a series of events, including a trip to Russia in June of 2006, God has led us to the former Soviet state of Estonia. We are sent by Woodcrest Baptist Church in Fridley, Minnesota.
We will be working together with team members Andrew and Sara Bunnell, who have been BIMI missionaries in Saint Petersburg, Russia for 4 years and are fluent in Russian. They arrived in Estonia in August 2007. Bob and Heather Gilley, veteran missionaries to Brazil, have also been led of the Lord to join our team. Together, our team is called, Eurasia Outreach. We will be joining our team members in Estonia this January 2009. We began traveling on deputation in September 2006.
Estonia Facts:
Population: 1.3 million
People: 68% Estonian, 25% Russian, 7% other
Religion: 69% non-religious, 15% Lutheran, 14% Russian Orthodox
Estonia seems to have the most stable political environment in the former Soviet Union. It has joined the European Union as well as NATO and has become very westernized. Estonia is slightly smaller than Vermont and New Hampshire combined.
Our Goals for Estonia:
1. Evangelize by showing the love of Christ in personal contacts and relationships, and reach people through mass evangelism.
2. Disciple new converts through Bible studies and establishing a local church in Estonia.
3. Train national pastors to staff the new churches by means of a Bible institute. We also hope to send Russian speaking missionaries back in Russia and the former Soviet Union.
With nearly 70% of Estonians being non-religious, the need for the Gospel in Estonia is very great. What would God have you to do for the lost of Estonia?
