In 1917 Anton and Viola Andersen boarded the ship City of Calcutta to plant their lives in Africa for the sake of the Gospel. Through their more than 40 years of ministry there, thousands came to Christ. In 1955 the Andersen's son Fred, who was a student at Tennessee Temple, impressed upon Dr. Lee Roberson the great need for helpers in the Belgian Congo. In response Dr. Roberson, along with nine other pastors, met and organized the Southern Wing of the Congo Gospel Mission.

When the Congo was closed in 1960 because of revolution, Dr. Roberson made the motion that the Mission be enlarged to embrace the world. That motion led to the formation of Baptist International Missions on June 28, 1960.

Since 1960 BIMI has extended its ministries into 90 countries around the world. With more than 1,000 missionaries, the Mission continues to assist local churches with their efforts to fulfill the Great Commission.

As we celebrate the past and face the challenge of the future, BIMI continues to join hands with local churches to embrace the world.

Help us celebrate our 50th Anniversary by joining us in a special missions offering.

To illustrate our desire of reaching the world for Christ, our goal is to cover a large world map with $50 bills. Each person or church that gives a gift will be recognized on the map by name, along with the total amount given.

Please bring your gift with you on June 8, or mail a check to BIMI (account #50), and we will be sure that it is included on the map. Thank you in advance for helping to make our 50th Anniversary a special occasion of bringing glory to the Lord.

Dr. Michael Edwards
Michael Edwards was wonderfully saved in 1975 and called into full-time ministry that same year. He and his family moved from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Springfield, Missouri, to prepare for the Lord's work. Upon graduation the Edwards moved to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, where Brother Edwards served as youth pastor for four years at the Allegheny Baptist Temple. In June of 1981, Dr. Edwards and his family moved to the metro area of Washington, D.C., and founded Heritage Baptist Church. The church has grown to an average attendance of 700 with a Christian school of over 300 students. Pastor and Mrs. Edwards have been blessed with three children who all serve the Lord. Dr. Edwards has served on the Executive Board of BIMI a total of 6.5 years and was elected as Chairman of the Executive Board on June 2, 2009. God has greatly used Dr. Edwards, and BIMI is thankful for his faithful leadership and love for world-wide missions.

Dr. James Ray
James Ray was born in 1940 on a farm near Fort Valley, Georgia. He was converted in a local Baptist church and entered the Gospel ministry at the age of 18. Before going to the mission field, Dr. Ray pastored churches in Tennessee, Illinois, and Alabama. For a number of years James and Mary Ray served in the countries of Australia and England and established new Baptist churches in both places. The Rays have two children and four grandchildren. In 1979 Dr. Ray was appointed as the European Director for BIMI and served in that capacity until May 2002. Since June 2002, Dr. Ray has served as President and General Director of Baptist International Missions, Inc. He has traveled and ministered in more than 50 countries as well as in thousands of churches in the USA. BIMI is glad for Dr. Ray's leadership and for the global vision that the Lord has given to him.
