Continue to pray for
Brother Roger Blevins
South America Director
On Sunday morning February 3 at 3:21 a.m., Brother Roger Blevins, BIMI’s Field Director for South America, was hit head-on by a drunk driver. He had gotten up and left just after 3:00 a.m. to travel to Boone, North Carolina, for a speaking engagement that morning. He was 2.8 miles from his house when the accident took place.
Both femurs were crushed and one of the main arteries in his right leg burst. The first day he received 33 units of blood. They initially thought he would lose his right leg but after several hours of surgery they were able to re-establish a pulse in his leg. They eventually were able to repair the artery. At the time the extent of other injuries was unknown. He was listed in critical condition. Due to the amount of trauma they used external fixcators to stabilize both legs and would later have to begin the process of fixing the bones.
For 23 days Brother Roger would slip in and out of consciousness, all the while in ICU remaining in critical condition. Because of the amount of injury to his right leg, it had to be amputated.
On July 12, five months and 11 days after the accident, Brother Roger returned home. PRAISE THE LORD!
How can we help Brother Blevins?
Updated September 11, 2008
We praise God for what He is doing in Roger and Kay's lives. We also know that now that he is back home, there will be changes in store for them. Many have asked how they can help. There are several areas where help is needed:
1. Mobility Handicap Vehicle - The Blevins are looking for a used mobility handicap vehicle. If you or someone you know has one for sale, please contact them.
2. Any Donations - Roger and Kay are not sure what all the needs will be. Now that Brother Roger is home, they are discovering needs that had not occurred to them previously. At this point, donations are being held in Brother Roger's work fund and will be distributed as the needs are known.

Dear Praying Friends,
It has been a while since our last posting, but that is not because we do not need your prayers anymore!! The truth is we need your prayers now just as much as we ever did, and we beg you to please keep us on the prayer list!! Before I go on, let me again tell you how much we appreciate your prayers. I have said it before, but it bears repeating. Linda Kay and I are completely convinced that if it were not for the prayers that so many of you have sent to the Throne of Grace, we would never have been able to go through all we have been through over the past seven and a half months. THANK YOU !!
As for me, I am doing much better! The elbow surgery last week went well. I have a sore elbow, but it has not slowed me down too much with my physical therapy sessions. Those sessions are sometimes very painful and exhausting, but I am making progress every week!! My left leg continues to strengthen and I am noticing a gradual, but steady, increase in my endurance level. Ice bags and pain pills are still a part of the routine, but less now than before.
I am slowly, but surely, trying to get back into the flow of things as far as communicating with our South American missionaries and assisting with their needs. I am very grateful for Brother Terry Jones (BIMI's Central America Director) who has done, and continues to do, an outstanding job of filling in for me during my time of convalescence. I am, however, very anxious to be more and more involved, with the goal of soon relieving Brother Jones of the day to day responsibilities related to South America. I am still not able to do much traveling, but that will come in time. It has been the daily interaction with our precious South American missionary families that I have missed the most, and I am so thankful that I am finally being able to begin participating at that level again.
Many have asked about my first opportunity (September 7th) to preach since the accident: praise the Lord, it went extremely well!! I asked the Lord to bless me as HE never had before, and I believe HE answered my prayer!! I know many of you were praying too, so, together, we can all say that GOD ANSWERED OUR PRAYERS!! Thank you for your part in making it a wonderful occasion!!
May God's Richest Blessing Be Yours,
Roger D. Blevins

FINAL UPDATE
Today is Wednesday, January 14th, 2009. Almost a full year has past since my accident (February 3rd, 2008). I have come a long way from that first day when my doctors said I had no more than a 1% chance of survival! I am a living, walking answer to many prayers! I am a miracle! Praise God for miracles!
Over the past few weeks I have made several trips from our home in Georgia to the BIMI World Missions Center in Harrison, Tennessee to carry on mission business and to meet with missionaries. Driving the van with hand controls is working out well, and the Lord has provided, for a very economical price, a used electric powered wheelchair that has greatly improved my mobility. I continue to go to rehab twice a week, and the goal of learning to walk is inching ever closer. I feel pretty good most days, with less pain than before. All in all, I am doing much better, and I believe that I will continue to improve steadily as time goes by.
In recent weeks I have been in churches in Tennessee and Georgia. I am scheduled to be in churches in Virginia, Ohio and back in Georgia during the month of February. Oh, how I rejoice in the Lord at being able to get back in the pulpit, preaching the precious Word of God!! Please pray for me as I undertake these trips away from my familiar home environment. I admit it is a little intimidating, but everywhere I have been so far, churches and pastors have been so accommodating and so helpful. Living with a handicap can be frustrating, but the kindness I have been shown by God's people is truly encouraging. If any pastors out there would like for me to come and share what God has done in our lives through this experience, please contact me, and I would be more than happy to come to your church. I believe I have a somewhat unique story to tell, and I am praying that the Lord will use it for His honor and glory!!
Last week Linda Kay and I went back for a brief visit to Atlanta Medical Center where I was hospitalized in the ICU for fifty-nine days. What a joy it was to see many of the people who took such good care of me while I was there. Many of them did not recognize me. They readily recognized Linda Kay, and one nurse even pointed at me and asked my wife, "Is that him?" I guess I look a lot different now than I did when I was under their care and fighting for my life. Praise the Lord for answered prayers that so many of you prayed! Praise the Lord for miracles!
Since we are nearing the one year anniversary of my accident, this will be the last update we will post on the website. I want to again profoundly thank BIMI for allowing us to use this medium for keeping those who were interested informed as to my condition, needs and progress. The web link has produced literally thousands of prayer partners all around the world; something for which I am eternally grateful, and without which I do not think I would be here today. We will leave this posting on the website for a few weeks and then the link, "Blevins Update", will disappear from the BIMI homepage. If any of you would like to continue to receive updates from me personally by means of our regular prayer letters, you can email me and let us know. My email address is: rdb2053@gmail.com. Just give me your email or regular mail address, and I will see that you continue to hear from us on a regular basis.
I will close by simply saying THANK YOU to everyone who has prayed! God has answered your prayers, and He continues to do so, ….. so please keep on praying!! Words cannot express the debt of gratitude we feel toward all of you who have followed the updates and have faithfully held us up before the Throne of Grace in prayer. May God bless you all!! Please keep on praying and again I say, praise the Lord for miracles!!
Yours for the Harvest,
Roger D. Blevins
