By Dr. Gerry Baughman - Founder, Director CAMP BIMI * SMART
My quiver is full of grandchildren! Many of them are living in different countries around the world. Some of them will grow up speaking Spanish; some will learn tribal languages much better than their parents and some will fly before they walk, carrying their doll babies on their backs and playing with toys that seem archaic here in the States. These are the children of our extended family and not related by bloodline. They may even be your ‘kids’. CAMP BIMI just seems to do that to us. We love and care for each one of you. We care about your spiritual walk, where you are serving, what struggles you’re having and the blessings God has given you in your ministry.
When some of you came to CAMP BIMI I, you were single, shy and searching as to where the Lord wanted you to serve. Now you’re on the field with perhaps two or four or ‘more’ in that proverbial quiver. While some may not have found that mate yet, you’re serving on the mission field, or in your church, or teaching in a Christian school, just being faithful. That makes us proud parents!
How well I remember when our youngest son called and said ‘It’s a girl!’ With a family full of boys, I was thrilled! Megan was the most wonderful little thing. Now she is 15 and never stops her many activities for a moment. School, youth group…soon to drive…busy. Then her brother, Nicholas, was born almost 14 months later. There’s never a dull moment when Nick is around! If he isn’t building some crazy ‘thingamajig’ to ride on, he is trying to find out how something works, but he always has a few extra parts left over. Nick is 14 now and I think he would like to ride his snow board in the Olympics one day. He’s very good at it. I’ll watch! No…I’ll be there in person!
Kyle is six. He is our little miracle boy. His first month was spent in the hospital. After two heart surgeries, Kyle is doing great and is full of life. He’s the one that gets away with calling me ‘Pops’. Victoria Grace just turned six. She never stops chattering and playing with her dolls. You almost have to make an appointment to get a hug, but I have gotten a few hugs on the run.
Lastly, there’s Campbell. She will be two on the 14th of June and is the only grandchild that lives near us and allows me to spoil her. She loves to snuggle, hug, blow kisses, and be rough-housed by her dad and Papaw. I’ve been allowed to baby-sit for her on occasion. She likes to be held by Papaw when she takes her afternoon nap! It’s our bonding time…while we both sleep.
We work at building relationships. Each one of our grandchildren is an individual. Each was created by God as He saw fit. They are a unique part of His creation. As they accept us as we are, it is our responsibility to accept them as they are … to love them, to treat them equally, and to try to build character traits in them that will remain throughout their lives.
Summer is coming. As you possibly return home this summer to family, or go to a mission field or work a summer job, you will have many opportunities to build relationships. How you act, and react, will have a direct influence on those around you. Learn to forgive. Keep short accounts – meaning to make wrongs right and not carry bitterness or anger. Think before you speak, and by every means possible, learn to accept each person as a special gift from God. There is a time to ‘hug’. Try it on your family and loved ones. It may turn a great summer into an unforgettable experience for others, and for you.
Someday, you may have grandchildren who need a little bit of love. Work on building relationships now. Practice makes perfect!

TEN PRINCIPLES FOR BIBLICAL LIVINGby Dr. Don Sisk
BIMI President Emeritus
This is definitely recommended reading for everyone, regardless of your calling. Dr. Sisk has lived by these foundational truths for many years. The principles have guided his life and ministry and are time tested and simple, yet profound. I recommend Dr. Sisk’s book for anyone who wishes to set goals for a biblically sound, financially solid, and joyfully productive Christian life. It is great teaching material for churches, schools and mission fields around the world.

Joe and Melissa (Ridings) Marshall - CB ’96
Darwin AUSTRALIA
We started Gateway Baptist Church on the 31st of October 2004. Since that time, a Gospel presentation and invitation to our church has gone into over 24,000 homes. In the 2 years since we began the church, we have seen over 275 first time visitors, 6 saved, 3 baptized, 17 people join the church, 6 people in our discipleship program, and many return visitors. God has blessed us with an average attendance of 25 on Sunday mornings. Already, our church is able to support 3 Australian missionary couples that are in Japan, the Philippines and Romania! In preparation for the future, Gateway recently established a building fund and we have roughly 4% of our needed funds.
We are praying for another couple to come to partner with us. A team effort would make things much easier. Please let couples know that they can write us, and we would be interested in telling them anything they want to know about Darwin. We know what it is like when you are trying to find a place to serve ... you just keep asking everyone, and eventually God does show you the perfect place. We knew God wanted us in Australia, but we also knew that God wanted us in a place where there was no independent Baptist church. We have corresponded with several couples that felt Australia was for them, but after talking to several missionaries here in Oz, they were frightened off at the prospect of Darwin. We understand that Australia, especially Darwin, is not for everyone. We absolutely love serving the Lord up here. Many will not come here because of the heat and other factors. We have had several missionaries tell us they couldn’t believe how long we have lasted, but praise God! We’re going to just keep going.
Please pray for the weak dollar. It has lowered our support level by 20%. We are due for furlough, but feel we must stay another term before the church will be strong enough. We expect our third baby the latter part of April.
NOTE: The ‘capital’ of northern Australia is closer to Jakarta than it is to Sydney, and closer to Singapore than it is to Melbourne, so it should come as no surprise that it looks outward to Asia as much as it looks inland to the rest of Australia. This proximity and familiarity with Australia’s northern neighbors is reflected in the town’s relaxed, cosmopolitan, tropical atmosphere. In a country that prides itself on its ethnic diversity, Darwin may be the most multi-cultural city of all. Email the Marshalls.

We ask you to bathe our special project and its’ manager in prayer continually until it is ready for unveiling. Anything of this magnitude is met with tremendous obstacles , but the Lord is ALWAYS the VICTOR. We will announce its’ unveiling when it is ready to roll. It will happen, but in God’s Time–not ours. FIRST DATESDiane Baughman
I knew that would get your attention…and rightly so! Depending on your age, date can conjure up a flurry of meanings. There’s the date that makes your heart palpitate… "He finally called and what shall I wear?" During holidays, there are special date recipes–yum! There are birthdates, wedding and anniversary dates, graduation and engagement dates. There might be the date you received the news you were expecting your first child or the date you brought home your chosen little one. If you’re a parent, there are play dates with other children, or dates for academic testing, that first day of kindergarten or college. What about the date you signed for your first home or your first job or purchased your first car? For some of you, there is the date you proudly joined the armed forces to fight for our freedom and country. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Yes, our calendars can be filled in no time with today’s busy life styles and schedules, can’t they? It makes me tired just seeing all those appointments and dates marked in almost every little box for an entire twelve months, let alone keeping all of them!
Sometimes, dates are engraved on rings, jewelry, Bibles, plates, certificates or trophies. There are spiritual dates as well. The date you were saved, baptized, the date you shared your testimony for the fist time. What about the date you met your first missionary, or gave your first tithe or first Faith Promise? Do you remember the date you taught your first Sunday School class, or attended your first youth activity…the date you led your first soul to the Lord? What about the date you took your first mission’s trip or received your first Bible or memorized your first Bible verse?
As I opened my Bible today, in the very front on the original pink Post-it note a BIMI secretary gave us during CAMP BIMI ’98, it reads "6-28-98 Baughmans Megan Baughman asked Jesus to come into her heart yesterday! It’s on your voice mail!" On another pink note paper next to it is another date."4-2-00 Randy saved Sunday night" and a second date is there. "4-6-00 8:19 pm Nicholas got saved." Those are our oldest two grandchildren and my brother, Randy. I still remember the joy and relief that they were gloriously saved. For my brother, it had been a long road. An answer to prayer.
Near the middle of my Bible in Haggai is another date and prayer written in pencil. I remember sitting in the Ford parking lot in Niagara Falls ON waiting to get our oldest son from work. We were so discouraged. "Dearest Lord Jesus, I claim these promises from you this 31st day of August, 1986 believing you have chosen us to finish the work that was begun in this place. I love you, Lord Jesus. We desire to be used greatly of you. Help us in troubled times to remember Corrie ten Boom whose sister, Betsie, said ‘There is no pit deep enough that God cannot go deeper.’ Lord, help us to not quit, even when in difficult times and our human weaknesses we want to. Amen." Is this where you are right now? Don’t quit!
Yes, dates are locked in, can’t be changed and are etched in stone forever. dates can create smiles, tears, heartache, joy, thankfulness and regret. Who’d have thought that a simple word like date would be a major player in our lives from the date we enter this world until the date we depart? And so it is that I want to ask you about your life to date. Satisfaction, regrets, living in or out of His Will? Since I was a child, I’ve heard that the Lord’s Coming is near. It is! As you and I see the state of the world today and the spiritual state of those of us in it, I must ask you what state are you in. Confusion, denial, anger, disbelief, contentment, anticipation of His Soon Coming? That date will be the final one. Are you ready? There is nothing He can’t forgive.
