Our Testimonies

After Dr. Shumpert presented the CLAIM ministry in my church in 1995, I asked him about medical mission opportunities. He said, “I have a trip for you. It won’t challenge your pharmacy skills but it will change your life.” He was right. My first trip to Japan changed my life forever. I had the privilege to later join the CLAIM ministry and expand it to include medical missions under his leadership. Because of his insight and Godly wisdom, medical professionals have opportunities to experience missions first hand while many people in third world countries get the much needed physical help but most of all, receive spiritual help through the glorious gospel.

Both of us have truly cherished our friendship with Dr. and Mrs. Shumpert, and it is with a heavy heart that we see them leave CLAIM to take up their new responsibilities with BIMI. We are thankful for the trips we were able to make with them. Besides Dr. Shumpert’s wonderful preaching, which always helped us to grow spiritually, his leadership by example is truly unique in today’s world. He truly enjoyed having “hands on” during the CLAIM trips, and this encouraged team members to be more diligent. It is our prayer that the ministry of CLAIM will go forward with many opportunities to serve the Lord just as Dr. Shumpert envisioned the program through his faithful years of service.

My life has been forever impacted by God’s man. It was through his preaching that the Lord called me to missions in October 2000. I picked Dr. Shumpert up from the airport to bring him to our church for a mission conference. It was during this 2 hour trip that I asked him “so what is the CLAIM ministry all about anyway?” The next two hours he showed me the passion he had for missions and lost souls. This scripture comes to mind when I consider all that he has done in the CLAIM ministry, for missionaries and lost souls around the world: “Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.” Phil 2:29-30
