KATRINA’S GIFT
By Jim Ashley of Lighthouse Baptist Church
Pascagoula, Mississippi
To some people, Katrina was a
terrible, terrible bad thing.
When I look back on it, I praise
the Lord, I shout, and I sing.
Sure it left us homeless, helpless,
and in a state of despair,
but it also showed us how much
God’s people really care.
Just as soon as the wind abated
these good saints began to move.
From their heart the help came, for
they had nothing else to prove.
They heard the call from above;
they must go help their fellow man.
Everything that was needed was
loaded in trucks, in cars, and vans.
New hope sprang up in our hearts
when these angels began to arrive,
for we knew then that our trust, and
love of God surely would survive.
They rebuilt our church, refreshed
our life, but they did so much more
for they restored our faith in our
fellow man like we never had before.
Yes, Katrina did wreck havoc
upon this sovereign land of ours,
but then God demonstrated
to us His truly awesome powers.
For He showed us again just
how good mankind can truly be.
So now for our new friends we
thank God on our bended knee.
