Whatsoever Thy Hand Findeth to Do . . .
By Sharon Daugherty

From August 30 to September 9, a group of six volunteers went to Pascagoula, Mississippi, to help the Bardwell family of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Their home had been under six feet of water due to Hurricane Katrina’s storm surge. Their house was completely gutted, but there were no funds or workers to rebuild their home.

It was with joy and determination that work began the day of our arrival. A small utility room was built under the end of the carport. The plumbing was replaced and a new shower was installed. The rewiring was completed. Seventy-eight pieces of sheetrock were hung and mudded. Two rooms were sanded and primed. The floors were scrubbed with bleach and soap to remove the nasty deposit left from the flood waters. The outside of the house was also scrubbed, primed, and painted. While waiting for the electrical and plumbing to be inspected, we were able to help a widow lady from the church by doing some rewiring on her home and installing laminate wood flooring.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work… in the grave, whither thou goest. It is truly a blessing to be able to serve the Lord!

Editor’s Note: The Bardwells, who have two teen daughters and an eight-year old son, are still living in two FEMA trailers. They need carpet, trim work, doors purchased and installed, their bathroom finished, and sinks installed in the kitchen before they can move back into their home. They are also in need of quality appliances and furniture. This family was left with very little after the storm and flood damage. They could greatly use any financial assistance or the help of a construction team.
