BAHAMIAN CHURCH DESTROYED
DURING HURRICANE WILMA
Alan Robinson
After passing over Florida, Hurricane Wilma’s devastating winds reached all the way to the island of Grand Bahamas where she destroyed New Testament Baptist Church of Eight Mile Rock. This church was founded many years ago by a BIMI missionary. The church had leased property from the Bahamian government and recently refurbished it. A dedication ceremony was scheduled for this December. However, Wilma’s powerful winds completely demolished the building leaving nothing but the concrete slab. All pews, hymnals and other church literature were destroyed.
The church congregation is determined to have a gospel presence on the west end of the island. Land is very expensive though. Currently, Pastor Michael Hall is looking at 2 acres of land farther inland from the ocean with an asking price of $120,000. They are hoping to get the price reduced some. The church has about $8,000 on hand. We would like to help them as much as possible through financial assistance and work teams. Contributions can be made to the Hurricane Relief Fund and designated for “Grand Bahamas.”
