I Ran from Life to Death! – Kim Pluc The picture that circled the globe in 1972 and some believe hastened the end of the war in Vietnam was taken by a young 21-year-old Associated Press photojournalist. Nick Ut took the picture, quickly put his camera down, and rushed Kim to the hospital. The photo above shows nine-year-old Kim Pluc running for her life after South Vietnamese troops mistak- enly discharged a flaming napalm bomb on friendly troops and a local village. Kim ripped off her burning clothes but suffered life-threatening burns on her left arm and back. (The photo above shows nine-year-old Kim Pluc on road, courtesy of Associated Press). 8 • NATIONS
