And I Looked In the
RearView Mirror
By Ed & Barbara O’Brien
And of some have compassion, making a
difference: And others save with fear, pulling them
out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by
the flesh (Jude 22–23) .

During 2019 Dr. David Snyder, our general director at
BIMI, challenged us to keep moving forward for the Lord
and the ministry to which He has called us. As we have
endeavored to keep moving forward, we have been blessed to see the Lord working
in the lives of the people He has given us.

Recently, I received some photos from the first church plant we had in the village
of Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco, Mexico. The photos prompted me to “look in the
rearview mirror” and rejoice at what God has done over the years in that church.

Photos of little children, youth meetings, youth camp, Vacation Bible School, and
young families whom we have never met reminded me that they are all fruit from
the seed of God’s Word that was sown so many years ago in 1985. We rejoice in
what God has done!
As we have moved forward during 2019, we are thankful for Adrian and Erika, a
new couple who were saved recently. Their spiritual growth has been incredible
over the past few months. The first thing they did after receiving the Lord as their

Savior was to tell me they needed to get married (instead of just living together).

And they did! The next week, after a lesson on baptism, they said, “We want to be
baptized this Sunday.” So we did! Everything the Holy Spirit deals with them in
their hearts, they are willing to do. They honestly know “next to nothing” about
the Bible but have such a hunger to know God and His Word that
they are reading five chapters or more per day and spending time
together in prayer.

Almost daily, I receive a text message from Adrian with a word of encouragement
that they are praying for me and the ministry of our church. Adrian and Erika
are so excited about their new life in Christ and are in church for every service or
activity. After going with us to a one-day Bible conference at a Spanish church in
South Carolina, Adrian told me he was willing to accept the challenge from one
of the messages for young men to accept the call to ministry and to preach God’s
Word. “Wow!” I am honestly overwhelmed by what I am witnessing God do in
the hearts of this young couple. Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift (2
Corinthians 9:15).

Will you please lift up this young
couple in prayer as God continues
to do a mighty work in their hearts
and pray that the Lord will receive
all the honor and glory for this
unspeakable gift? They continue
to battle with their past, having
only been saved for a few months,
and are receiving persecution
from some family members. Pray
for God to give us wisdom as we
disciple them and guide them in
God’s Word.
