What causes a man or woman to join the military? What
motivates them to volunteer their lives to this service? No
doubt the answers to these questions would be as many and
as varied as there are signatures on the enlistment line. Some
are motivated by duty or a feeling of patriotism. For others it
is a family tradition, a sense of purpose. Yet others may see it
as an escape, an adventure, a desire to travel, and the list goes
on and on. Currently, there are over 1.3 million people in the
military, so there are over 1.3 million stories that could be told.
Our nation recently honored our Veterans and according to
a government census, more than 41 million Americans have
served over the course of our nation’s history and each person
had his or her reasons.
But more than what lies behind each service man or woman,
we are motivated to serve these fellow Americans because of
what lies ahead of them. While there is no way to definitively
predict the details of what lies ahead of them, we do know
according to Scripture that eternity could be right around
the corner. Of course, the same could be said of every man
or woman on the earth. It is for this reason that we are so
passionate about going to where our military are and sharing
with them the hope that is found in a relationship with Christ.
Currently, we have local churches established outside of
many of our overseas bases for the purpose of telling them
about salvation through Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, there
are more places where there is still a need for a local church.
When families or individuals are living outside of their home
country, the awareness of the spiritual needs in their lives
is often heightened. We would like to be able to provide a
spiritual lighthouse for these people and their families.
The need among our military communities overseas for
church planting pastors is real. Young families and single
service personnel need someone to shine the light of the
Gospel into their hearts and lives. They need to have a place,
a church, where they can grow in grace and truth through
preaching and discipleship. Once established, these churches
are vibrant with the life and vitality of folks excited about
having their eternal destination secured through faith in
Christ. The faces in these bodies of believers are ever changing
due to military rotations, but the need for someone to go to
them has never changed. Would you pray about pastoring or
planting a military church? W
