The 2005 Distinguished Missionary Award was presented to Al Sligh and his wife, Norma, posthumously on August 3 at the annual Directors Retreat. The Slighs have served with BIMI since 1973. They have labored among the U.S. military in several countries including Japan, Puerto Rico, Panama, and Guam. Over the years, the Lord has used them to plant three independent Baptist churches and impact great numbers of military personnel for Jesus Christ. Many of their converts are serving God in full-time ministry. Norma went home to be with the Lord in June of 2003. We thank God for Al and Norma’s three decades of distinguished service to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Established in 2003, The Distinguished Missionary Award recognizes one missionary couple (or individual) per year that makes a significant contribution to the worldwide ministry of BIMI. The recipient is chosen from a list of candidates presented by field directors. Missionaries must have at least 15 years of distinguished service with BIMI in order to be considered for the award.

The exquisite grandfather clock in the main lobby of the World Missions Center was designed and built by Mr. Paul L. Ramsey. At age 91, he crafted the clock out of beautiful Indiana sycamore. Mr. Ramsey is the father of BIMI Comptroller John Ramsey.
