The Distinguished Missionary Award, initiated in 2003, is given in recognition of outstanding missionary service with BIMI. To be considered for this award, a missionary must have at least 15 years of faithful ministry with BIMI.

The 2007 recipients are missionaries Dan and Gerri Johnson. The Johnsons have faithfully served the Lord in Brazil for more than 30 years. Their ministry has focused on local church planting, Bible institute teaching, and writing. They have also lectured on family life and creationism. Perhaps the greatest measure of their ministry can be seen in their family. Three of Dan and Gerri’s five children, Bryan, Carl, and Eddie, are second generation BIMI missionaries, also serving the Lord in Brazil.
