Unemployment continues to be a problem. The significant Romany (Gypsy) population exists.
The major religion is Catholic. Some independent Baptist missionaries are working including one family from BIMI who has been there for less than five years. There is need for patient witnessing and winning people over to the Gospel of grace through the Lord Jesus Christ. Progress may be slow but this is necessary if these 5.4 million people will find hope for the future.
