Russell and I were members at Camp Creek Baptist Church in Six Mile, South Carolina, when he felt led of the Lord to attend Bible college in 1976. While Russell was in school, God called us to be missionaries to Canada. After he completed school, we were accepted by BIMI and we raised our support. In October 1981 we moved to Canada as landed immigrants. We started Lighthouse Baptist Church in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Brother Steve Stone and his wife, Kathy, joined us there and we worked together until God moved them to another area. My husband I worked there until 1994 when the work was turned over to a national pastor. We had already started Emmanuel Baptist on the French Shore and this work was turned over to a national pastor in 2003. Also, we had the privilege of helping in other mission works while we were in Nova Scotia.
Russell's health began to fail and we moved back to South Carolina. We were able to do relief work in Canada for several years. In October 2008 we learned Russell had cancer and the Lord called him home in December of that year.
Since the spring of 2009, I have been involved in visiting veterans' homes and hospitals in my area and in North Carolina. The Lord opened the door in 2010 to volunteer with Rock of Ages Ministries. I work in the women's prisons in South Carolina and also other prison institutions. I help with counseling the ladies when they come forward during the invitation and visit on the prison yard and in the dorms. When we have all-day events, I teach sometimes, help serve food, help with skits and whatever is needed. I have helped with Vacation Bible School (VBS) for juveniles and in the Prison Blitz, which is held every September. I also speak at ladies' events and help in VBS when I am asked.
I was asked by my pastor to coordinate the Good News Club in one of our local elementary schools. This is a 24-week program and we meet every Wednesday after school. I have been doing this for five years as well as working in the children's ministries in my home church.
Please pray for me and the ministries in which I am involved.
