Linda Green

Serving in Uganda, Africa

I joined the U.S. Navy at 17. However, I did not leave for boot camp until I was 18. My first duty station was Rota, Spain. Basketball Coach Raeford Ellison invited me to Bethel Baptist Church November 1981. He and his family kept picking me up for all services and I was very faithful. On the 14th of February 1983, I received Jesus Christ at the age of 19 on a Sunday night and was baptized since it was the last night of the two-week revival meeting with Evangelist Doug Martin. Mrs. Ellen Smith led me to the Lord, and Ron Parrott was the pastor at that time. I had fasted the whole week for a buddy of mine to get saved, but she did not come. Instead, I got saved!

February 1984 at a children's meeting with Bobby Brown, I went forward and gave my life to Christ. I said, “If the Lord would call me, I would go wherever.” Little did I know He would do just that! While moving around with the Navy, I would rededicate my life to the Lord at the missions conferences in each church I was a member, reminding Him that I remembered what I said in February of 1984. On August 12, 1999, as a member of Jacksonville Baptist Temple while stationed at Millington Naval Base in Memphis, Tennessee, I was attending a missions conference. While I was driving back to Memphis, God called me to Uganda Africa.

After 20 years in the Navy, I retired in November 2001. I arrived in Uganda Africa on June 26, 2004. I worked with Dr. Kyle Guimon, helping him and other missionaries to establish the Soroti Orphan Assistance Project (SOAP). I managed the money and supplies; I maintained the kitchen staff; and I taught women in Sunday school in Serere and Soroti.

I worked at SOAP until October 31, 2021, and then I headed to Kampala where the Dwire family was located. Dan Dwire and family had left SOAP seven years earlier where we had worked together since January 2022. I had the choice of going back to the States or staying in Uganda. My house was packed to leave Uganda, but I asked the Lord if there were something Linda Green could still do for Him here?

I started working with village churches, encouraging women to study God’s Word. The Bible is not just for pastors. In 2014, Pastor Jaluge and his wife asked me to help teach women in about 13 churches he had started since his wife cannot read. I prayed about it and said, “Yes." I still to this day go to village churches, teaching and encouraging women to study God’s Word as well as going to vocational institutes, secondary schools, universities, orphanages, prisons, and a sickle cell clinic.

In addition, I help the Dwires with their ministry at Faith Baptist Church as much as I can though my ministry is in Soroti and the surrounding regions: Amuria, Kumi, Serere, Dokolo, Kaberamaido, Lira, Agago District, Pallisa, Lala, Otuboi, Marioapesu, Tabor, Nakatunya, Lamwo, Pader, Ngora, etc. I work with national pastors in many churches that were started with the help of American missionaries, getting them Bibles, tracts, and John and Romans.
