Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee (Psalm 51:13). John Dana & Anna Labit If a Fourth Great Awakening were to occur, it would begin in an overseas military church. I believe the best place to enlist and serve God is in military churches. The people of a military church understand standards, commitment and sacrifice because of what they learn serving in the US Armed Forces. Those with combat experience identify with Christ's example of giving His life for mankind. Many soldiers have seen their brothers-in-arms give their lives so another may live. My wife, Anna, and I were both called to full-time ministry while members of a military church overseas in the country of Japan. We are now serving as interns at Maranatha Baptist Church under Pastor and Mrs. Craft. The Lord called me during my first tour on Okinawa, Japan, while members of Maranatha Baptist Church. It was Father's Day 2005 and Evangelist Dwight Smith was preaching. I surrendered to God's call and was willing to leave the Marine Corps immediately, but my pastor advised me to stay in and retire. I heeded his advice and have not regretted it. As retirees we are able to have access to military bases and minister to the military community. Anna was called to full-time ministry while we were stationed at Sasebo, Japan. Dr. J.B. Godfrey was preaching and she made a commitment to go wherever God calls her husband and to follow him. Amen! God has used overseas military churches to impact our lives. We have learned so much. We have served in the following areas while members of a military church: Soulwinning and Visitation, Sunday School, Altar Worker, AWANAs, Patch the Pirate Club, Choir, Nursery and the Bus Ministry.
