A Firm Foundation
by Erik Johnson
And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the
foundation of the house of the Lord was laid (Ezra 3:11b) .
Much like the nation of Israel, the church here in the Dominican shouted for joy
when we laid the foundation to our new church building. However, before we ever
laid the “physical” foundation, the Lord began laying a “spiritual” one first.
Our journey in the Dominican began a little over five years ago. As we began to see
Him transform the lives of new believers, we began dreaming about the day when
the Lord would allow us to build our very own temple. With the high land prices and
difficult economic times we were not certain how long this process would take. After
four years of prayer, the Lord provided in a way that only He could—miraculously.
The Lord allowed the church to purchase an ample piece of property, centrally located
in our area of ministry at an almost 50% discount of the current market rate!
In the Dominican it sometimes can take years to complete the transferring of
property titles, and it can be very costly to obtain the necessary government permits.
However, by the grace of God and the help of a lawyer in our church, we were able to
get our property title and government permits in one year. We stood in awe of God's
goodness to us during this process and as a church began to save towards our future
construction. In April we had the joy of dedicating the piece of property to the Lord. Words cannot
describe the joy that welled up in our hearts as we prayed over this property, asking
the Lord to allow this future building to be used for His glory for generations to come.
