The Shining Son in the Land of the Rising Sun by Joyce Alverson Bible Verse: Philippians 2:15 — That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world (emphasis added). Introduction Truly, we as military missionaries have been sent by God to shine as His lights to military families in different parts of the world where there is a military base. My husband and I count it a real privilege and pleasure to work with our military missionaries in different parts of the world who are reaching our military families with the Gospel. We are proud of our military missionaries who have made sacrifices to serve our Lord and our military and have made sacrifices to serve our country. Recently, my husband and I had the opportunity to fly to Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun, for two weeks to visit with our military missionaries. The first week we were involved in the Missions Conference and the second week with our military missionaries in the Pacific Field Conference.  March 9–13 Missions Conference A week before our Asian Field Conference, we had the privilege of being with Pastor Navato and his dear wife, Elvie, at the Yokosuka Baptist Church in Yokosuka City  for the Missions Conference.  Brother Alverson was the keynote speaker for the week.  The Navatos and  folks at Yokosuka Baptist Church were such a blessing to us.  We saw a great Faith Promise come in that week.  Sammy and Joan Popwell, the Military Coordinator, were with us as well. The Popwells and I had the opportunity to share our testimonies on the call to missions.  It was a wonderful week and we truly enjoyed being with the military families there. They all were so gracious to us.  March 14–17 Field Conference We were recently in Yokota, Japan, by the Yokota Air Base for our biennial Pacific Military Missions Field Conference.  We had 18 military missionaries from all over Japan present for this event which was held at Yokota Baptist Church, pastored by Daniel McKittrick.  The McKittricks were a great host and hostess and their church people fed us well.  During the week each of our military missionaries preached and gave testimonies.  Pastor Mike Edwards from Heritage Baptist Church in Woodbridge, Virginia, sent encouraging words to our missionaries through a video. Haruna McKittrick took all the missionary ladies by train to a local shopping mall where we had lunch and did a little shopping. It was a day of fun and sweet fellowship for the ladies. Time of Fellowship, Fun, and Refreshment Field Conference time is a special time for our missionaries.  It is a time for them to fellowship and have fun with other fellow military missionaries from other parts of Japan.  The mission field can sometimes be a stressful place. The field conference is a time to relieve that stress. It is also a time of refreshment. Hearing testimonies and preaching from fellow missionaries can be very uplifting. We are grateful for our field conferences where we can be with our military missionaries. I was so blessed to see our missionaries at the end of the field conference so excited and filled with fresh vigor.
