Things We Did Not See Coming

Focusing on Things Not Seen is our yearlong theme at Baptist International Missions,
Inc. (BIMI). The Candidate School theme was the same.
Many of the 2017 candidates had several obstacles in their lives as Candidate School
was approaching. We had missionaries who had passports stolen, a baby came seven
weeks early, a transmission was destroyed, a horse ran into a candidate’s car at 4:00
a.m., and a candidate fell through a ceiling at a church work party. All these things
happened from the Wednesday before Candidate School through Sunday morning
of Candidate School. However, most made it, and we saw God do great things in and
through their hearts.
These 70 candidates have a goal to reach the world for Christ through BIMI. God
has a wonderful plan for each of them. By the end of the week, we focused on things
we did not see coming. The passports were returned, the early baby made it safe and
sound, the transmission was fixed, the horse’s owner had insurance, and the mission-
ary who fell through the ceiling made it to every class. The unseen hand of God was
This year’s candidates learned to be faithful servants to the Lord even when they
could not see or understand what was going on. They all learned to trust the Lord as
He sends them into His harvest field. W
