Miss S
James From Suicide
to Salvation

She had pills in her pocket and a rope in
her house when James, one of the men who
faithfully attends our Bible Study in Phokera,
Malawi, was passing out tracts and came to
Miss S’s house. She was planning to commit
suicide, but he convinced her to come to the
Bible Study instead.

Due to sickness my wife, Jessica, and the
children were staying home. As I headed out
the door, I turned around and said, “Pray for us!
I am finishing up this set of Bible lessons, and
the lesson today deals strongly with salvation.

Pray that those who need it are there!” Little
did we know what God would do!
Pastor Nelson and I loaded things into the car
and prepared to go, but the car would not start.

After fiddling with the car, we still could not get
it to start! We prayed about it, and I told Pastor
Nelson to try one more time. Immediately, the
car started! Praise the Lord!
During the entire lesson, Miss S listened intently.

When I concluded
the message, she
immediately came
up and said that she
needed to be saved
today. She was only
29, but her lifestyle
made her look much
older. As we sat and
talked with her, tears
poured down her
8 face. She was broken and began to share about
her past. She had not only been involved in
prostitution and human trafficking but also
she was heavily involved in satanism, including
human sacrifices! She was now covered in
sores because the satanic group she was with
threw some type of water mixture on her when
she refused to sacrifice her 14-year-old son. As
she finished sharing her story, she said that she
did not feel like God could save her because of
how wickedly she had lived. What a blessing
when she bowed her head and trusted Christ
as her Savior!
The next week when we came for the Bible
Study, she was walking out to greet us with a
huge smile on her face. Her entire disposition
was different. She cheerfully sang the hymns
and fellowshipped after the Bible Study. She
asked us for a pack of tracts so she could pass
them out at the market and begged us to come
to her part of the village.

At her request, we have recently started
evangelizing in her area. During one of those
times, a few of the ladies from our church went
soul winning with her. They said that a few
houses turned them away because she was with
them, but many still listened. Still others have
said that they can see she is a changed person.

Miss S continues to faithfully come to Bible
Studies as often as she can. Because she has
AIDS and other sicknesses related to how she
has lived her life, she is frequently sick. We do
not know how many years the Lord will give
her, but we are sure she will be a great witness
as she shares what great things the Lord has
done for her! W

Fruit . . . More Fruit . . . Much Fruit . . .

The year 2023 was blessed and fruitful for
us, both in family and ministry life. Here
in Morelia, Mexico, we saw the Lord’s hand
working in hearts and lives throughout the
year. We had 130 professions of faith, six
baptized, and new families come to the church.

In the last half of the year, we had several
visitors just from our door-knocking efforts.

Julieta was saved in July, was baptized, and is
attending regularly. Miguel, Paty, and their little girl were contacted in the street. They came
the next day to church and have been coming ever since. Arturo was contacted by our soul
winners and has come a few times. Raúl, a young man who is studying to be a maxillofacial
surgeon, was saved at his door and is growing in the Lord. Please pray that this fruit will remain.

His questions were answered!
We rang Raúl’s doorbell on the evening before our church
anniversary in November. When he answered the door, he had a Bible
in his hand. As it turned out, it was given to him when he visited the
church where his mother had been recently attending.

Hurtful family problems had brought them to look for some
answers and they had not found them in the Catholic church.

Raúl had observed that as his mother went to this new church,

she seemed to be helped, so he decided to read the Bible.

Providentially, we rang his doorbell when he had just sat down to read it for the first time ever.

I shared the Gospel in detail with him. Twice he interrupted me to tell me that I was answering
a question that he had been pondering. One of those questions was “Why did Jesus have to die
on the cross?” He said, “I just asked myself that question today and you are answering it!” He
understood completely and readily accepted Christ as his Savior! It was so exciting to see how
the Lord had been working and allowed me, my son, and a visiting pastor to arrive at his door
at that very moment! I have been discipling him, but his rigorous school schedule has kept him
from church. Please pray for him and his family. W
