Dominica - Caribbean

This island nation, which is celebrating it twenty-first year of independence, is located south of the island of Guadeloupe. Because of its close proximity to Guadeloupe, which is French, Dominicans speak English and "Patua" or a mixture of English and French. This rugged island boasts of having over 365 rivers flowing out of its mountainous ranges. The 66,000 inhabitants rely heavily on agriculture for their main economic existence. The banana exports yield over 25% of their need. In the late 1970s BIMI missionary Joe Taylor started a work in Rosseau, the capital. Presently this island has about 10 good fundamental Baptist churches, but there are still many villages that need a good church.
