BIMI Europe Missionaries Following in the Steps of the Apostles
With the call of Paul to Macedonia (modern-day Greece), Europe became the very first mission field. Paul, along with several other of the Apostles, traveled extensively not only in Macedonia but also throughout the continent. A study of church history and the history of missions necessarily involves a study of European history.

Not only was Europe the first mission field for the church, it was down through the centuries the center of theological debate. We received a strong spiritual heritage from those separatists who paid a price—groups such as the Waldenses, Lollards, and Anabaptists, among others.

In addition, Europe eventually became the great missionary sending center of the church. Men like David Livingstone, William Carey, Hudson Taylor, and Count von Zinzendorf took the Gospel to the regions beyond. We owe much to those who through the centuries stood fast for the Faith and endeavored to spread the Gospel in obedience to the Great Commission.

Sadly, the spiritual climate in the Europe of today bears little resemblance to that of days gone by.
Today’s Europe is predominately secular and humanistic. There is also a growing presence of Islam throughout Western Europe. In most of Europe, the Word of God is unheeded, most often unknown. There is a climate of materialism, hedonism, and immorality but no real interest in God. There is religion but no real connection with the God of the Bible.

There are and will continue to be Great Open Doors of opportunity in Europe.
The very first missionary with BIMI began ministry in Spain in 1962. Since then there has been a steady stream of men and women answering God’s call to serve. Currently, we have more than 80 missionaries serving in at least 20 countries in Europe. Because Europe is so diverse, everything from huge metropolitan areas with millions of people to small villages and hamlets, the ministry of our missionaries is also unbelievably diverse! Because of this diversity, there is a place of service for anyone whom the Lord might call.

In recent years, there have been wars and political unrest that have affected some of the fields to which missionaries can go. However, the history of Europe is a history of conflict and war. We see that when one door closes, God always opens another! And it seems today that we may be poised on the threshold of seeing some closed doors re-open!

Could God be calling YOU to serve in the harvest field of Europe?
There are about 750 million souls in Europe in about 50 countries. So many of those countries are open and accessible if we only had the personnel. Would you ask God to let you go? It is no exaggeration to say that a servant sold out to God could make an impact in Europe that would echo into eternity! We need church planters, teachers, and workers. We need men and women willing to learn, work hard, and adapt. The United States Marines say that they need a “few good men.” Well, Europe certainly needs more than a “few” good men AND women who are totally surrendered to God’s call.

Seven hundred fifty million souls are waiting for someone to open the Word of God and tell them the Gospel Story—Maybe YOU!
