Alan & Donna Brooks
God saved me at eighteen years of age at Calvary Baptist Church in Normal, Illinois. My home at the time had been in Phoenix, Arizona but I had returned to Illinois to be in my best friend’s wedding. Ben, my childhood friend, had been saved since I had seen him last and invited me to go with him to church. He sat me on the second row from the front to make sure I heard the message. Thank God, that morning I responded to the invitation and accepted Christ as my Savior. God then led me to Maranatha Baptist Bible College in the fall of 1973. I then transferred to Hyles-Anderson College where I met my wife, Donna, and graduated in January of 1978. God moved us to Central Baptist Church of Hattiesburg, Mississippi where I became the youth pastor for three years.
In the summer of 1982, I was call to pastor the Bible Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was during this time that God gave me a burden for missions around the world. Holding yearly missionary conferences and being a part of the Action Committee of Baptist International Missions Inc. opened my eyes. Oswald J. Smith’s statement, “Why should anyone hear the gospel twice when there are those who have not heard it once?” began to work on my heart. After twelve fruitful years of pastoring, I resigned to go to the mission field.
In 1993, we were accepted as missionaries with Baptist International Missions, Inc. to Canada. After deputation, God led us to start the Berean Baptist Church of Winnipeg, Manitoba in the fall of 1996. Through gospel outreaches such as by-monthly newsletters, vacation bible school, revival meetings, door-to-door soul winning, and preaching, we have been able to reach into the homes of the whole northeast area of Winnipeg. Many souls have been saved, but there is still much to be accomplished. On June 21, 2004, the Berean Baptist Church officially called Pastor Chris Haley to be their full-time pastor. Brother Chris Haley is a graduate of Faithway Baptist College in Ajax, Ontario. He and his dear wife, Karen, have been working with us for the past three years. It was a unanimous decision to place him on salary, making the church a self-supporting ministry. What a blessing to know that the church has been placed into his able hands.
In January of 2004, Dr. Robert Meyer and Dr. James Ray asked me to pray about becoming Assistant Director of Southeast Asia. After much prayer and counsel, in June of 2004, the Executive Board approved me as Dr. Meyer’s assistant. My desire is assist our missionaries on the field, to help those on deputation and to assist in opening new countries to our missionaries.
