Tony & Kristy Applegate

Serving in Uganda, Africa

Personal website

The Applegate family has been in Uganda since 2002. Their first experience was in the southern Ugandan city of Mbarara, where they worked for 10 months maintaining the work of a missionary on furlough. During the 10 months, the Lord burdened the hearts of Tony and Kristy to return to Uganda as permanent missionaries. In January of 2005, the Applegates returned to Uganda to work with Keith Stensaas and family in Masaka, a city 2 hours northeast of Mbarara. God has put a unique mixture of present and future planning for fulfilling the Biblical missionary role of church planting. They are active in Bible college training and national pastor building for present church planting endeavors. In 2007, God impressed on Tony's heart the G.R.A.C.E. Project in the aiding of local Baptist churches in the development of Christian schools with orphan boarding sections and street children ministries.

Starting in 2017, God moved in our hearts again to help start another Independent Baptist church just outside of the capital city of Kampala in the town of Namugongo. We are partnering with the Dan Dwire family, and we are both very eager to see how God will grow this new church through our two families. I will be mentoring and teaching at East Africa Baptist College, located in the capital, and will also be traveling throughout the country to encourage and teach Ugandan pastors. It was very difficult to leave Mbira, especially for our children, who basically grew up in the village, but we are excited about the new opportunity the Lord is opening. With two other missionary families now leading in Mbira, we are confident that the work there can continue for God’s glory.
