Meet the Axolotl - A Picture of Resilience

With its permanent smile and feathery pink gills, the axolotl looks like a creature from a fantasy book—but it’s very real. Native to the lakes of central Mexico, this unusual salamander never fully “grows up.” Unlike most amphibians, axolotls remain in their juvenile, fully aquatic form for life—a trait known as neoteny.

Axolotls are also known for an extraordinary ability: regeneration. They can regrow lost limbs, gills, and even parts of their heart and brain without scarring—one reason they’re a major focus of scientific research.

Cute, curious, and scientifically invaluable, the axolotl also illustrates the resilience needed by missionaries on the field. Ministry can hurt our heart and bring misunderstandings, but God can work those experiences for spiritual renewal instead of emotional scarring. We can trust Him for we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).
