Dan & Becky Bennett
The Lord has allowed Dan and Becky Bennett to be involved with the Deaf ministry for many years. Becky learned sign language when she was only 12 years old. Dan started learning sign language when the two began dating. God has given them a special love for the Deaf, and this has become evident as their work became a “labor of love” for nearly 26 years in the country of Brazil. Dan has been the pastor of two different deaf churches in the state of São Paulo over the past 12 years, and they have seen many deaf people come to know the Lord. They also taught Brazilian sign language in several different churches in the São Paulo area.
In March of 2023, God began to work in their hearts about leaving Brazil to return to the United States for a new aspect of ministry. This was not an easy decision, but they knew that it was God’s will. In September of 2023, Dan resigned as pastor of the Bible Baptist Church for the Deaf in São Paulo. After having had the privilege of spending five terms of missionary service in Brazil, they said “goodbye” to the people that they have loved and served.
Their return to the States can only be explained by saying that they were following God’s leading. When Dan and Becky sensed that God was leading them to leave Brazil, Dan talked with the pastor of their sending church as well as with several other men of God concerning this decision. They confirmed what they had been taught and continued to believe that when God leads, we must obey. After much prayer and waiting on God, the Lord opened the doors at the right time for them to return to the United States.
Dan and Becky are based in Rock Hill, South Carolina, close to their sending church so that they can be more involved with helping their Deaf ministry to grow. They also want to reach out to other churches in the area to help them either begin or grow their own Deaf work.
With their experience of working both with the Deaf and Hearing of Brazil and the United States, they believe they can help and assist church planters stateside and around the world. Dan will also be available to preach in Deaf camps and conferences as well as to encourage and counsel home and foreign missionaries and nationals who work with the Deaf.
Dan and Becky have witnessed “firsthand” the tremendous need for laborers among the Deaf for many years. The Deaf population is an unreached people group that is white unto harvest, while the full-time laborers among the Deaf are very few. As opportunity arises, they will emphasize the need for more laborers that would surrender to reach the more than 70 million Deaf of the world.
As the Lord allows, the Bennetts would like to challenge and motivate Bible college students in the United States and foreign countries to work with the Deaf. Dan and Becky speak English and Portuguese and can sign American Sign Language (ASL) as well as Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS).
After having worked with the
Deaf in Brazil for many years, Dan and Becky believe that the Lord has called them to do more for the cause of reaching the
Deaf of the World with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
