The BIMI SMART program is designed to be a practical and beneficial part of training for a church planter, teaching how to navigate the complexities of full-time missionary service today. Why is BIMI uniquely equipped to offer such a learning experience?
• BIMI has one of the largest networks of missionaries and USA church planters among independent Baptist mission boards.
• BIMI has missionaries in 100 countries—all potential locations for internship!
• BIMI has over 60 years of established experience in cross-cultural training.
• BIMI has a relationship of trust with virtually every fundamental Baptist college.
• BIMI missionaries have a median age around 50, which means SMART interns receive mentorship from veterans.
MENTOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES
The mentor should coordinate with BIMI in setting up an appropriate mentorship training program, screening potential interns, and the placement of eligible candidates. Part of this coordination includes potential Mentors completing a questionnaire. BIMI does not directly oversee the administration of the mentorship process but rather facilitates the connections between the intern, home pastor, and host pastor and provides financial accountability and support. Also, the BIMI representative will assist the mentor in meeting any requirements placed upon the intern by his/her institution of higher learning or degree program. The goal is to facilitate internships that will both meet and exceed the requirements of many Christian college guidelines. It is also a goal that by participating in the BIMI SMART Internship Program, the Host Pastor/Missionary will develop a mentoring extension of his ministry and an enhancement of the work.
