It is largely a rural country having a rich and varied culture reflecting its mix of peoples—Magyars, Roma, German, Slovak, Croat, Serb, and Romanian minorities.

Hungary was one of the first Eastern European countries to embrace a market economy while still under Communist rule. Thus, after the fall of Communism its economy more easily transferred to Capitalism. It is today more "modern" than some other former Communist states.

The beautiful city of Budapest is the capital of this strategic country. The main religion is Roman Catholic. For several years BIMI had a missionary presence. However, BIMI no longer has missionaries there. Yet, the opportunities for further Christian witness are unparalleled. Find out more by contacting the European Director.
