Slovakia became a country with the breakup of Czechoslovakia in 1993. Since that time the country has been busy trying to establish a place within the international community after living for decades behind the Iron Curtain. Economic reforms are needed. Unemployment continues to be a problem. The significant Romany (Gypsy) population exists.

The major religion is Catholic. There is need for patient witnessing and winning people over to the Gospel of grace through the Lord Jesus Christ. Progress may be slow but this is necessary if these people will find hope for the future.
