This unique country, slightly larger than California, has a varied topography and is home to a varied and colorful people. The majority of the population have settled in the northern and western regions, while relatively few inhabit the interior. Since Cameroon is home to numerous people groups, it is not surprising that approximately 24 major African languages are spoken there, as well as the official languages of English and French. The numerous people groups and their corresponding languages and cultures make Cameroon one of the most complex countries in Africa. While some people groups are almost entirely Muslim, others claim Roman Catholicism or a Charismatic-type of belief, and still others cling to their traditional animism.

Originally a German colony, Cameroon was split after World War I into two sectors: one governed by England and the other by France. Although the countries merged in 1961, officially becoming one country once again, their people still largely reflect their respective backgrounds. The differences sustained by both the French and English sectors are striking, and have been the basis of much dispute.

Many of its people have been displaced due to internal conflict. Many are full of questions and uncertainty about their future. Oh, that more missionaries were there to direct these hurting people to the Savior!
