This West African country used to be called the Gold Coast, indicative of one of its chief exports. Today, missionaries find the country’s wealth of souls just as intriguing as the early explores found its resources. This former English colony, slightly smaller than Oregon, was originally formed from the union of several colonies. It was also the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to gain its independence, which it received in 1957.

Being rich in natural resources, it has been able to preserve a stable economy for many years. It has also been able to maintain a stable government, even though its country is composed of many different people groups. Frequent droughts in the north have caused most of the Ghanaians to settle in the south, and most choose to live near the coast, where the capital of Accra is located.

English is the official language, while each tribe has their dialect. There is a growing Muslim population as well as percentage of people who pursue materialism over God. However, most of its citizens would claim to be a "Christian." Yes, the Gospel has reached Ghana, but satan, the ever-ready deceiver, has quickly polluted it disguising Pentecostal/Charismatic doctrine, Catholicism, and Syncretism under the name of "Christianity," while only a very small margin of churches preach salvation. This confusion of the truth has left the over thirty-thousand Ghanaians in a terrible darkness - even darker than before, because they believe it to be light.
