Republic of the Congo - Africa
The Republic of the Congo is located on the equator along the western edge of Central Africa. Roughly comparable in size to the U.S. state of Montana, the country is home to approximately 6.6 million people. Once a French colony, Congo gained its independence in 1960, and French influence remains evident today in both the use of French as the official language and the adoption of the Central African Franc as its currency. The trade languages Lingala and Kituba are also official and are widely spoken throughout the country.
From the wild Atlantic coastline and Mayombe Mountains in the south to the rolling hills of the central plateau and the dense northern rainforests, Congo is a land of striking natural beauty and remarkable diversity.
Although the Republic of the Congo is open to the gospel and missionary work, it has been nearly untouched by missionaries for the past several decades. BIMI missionaries began serving in Congo in 2023. They are working to establish a strong foundation for long-term ministry and future outreach. While Catholicism and Pentecostalism are widespread, traditional animistic beliefs continue to influence much of daily life. The need for clear, faithful biblical teaching and preaching is great.
Could God use you to bring the light of the gospel to the people of the Republic of the Congo?
