Description of the location:
Ecuador is a diverse country in South America, bordered by Colombia to the north, Peru to the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. There are estimates of more than 75,000 deaf people in Ecuador. The main city we will be visiting is Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador, which has a population of about 2.9 million people.
Maranatha Baptist Church for the deaf in Guayaquil, which was started by BIMI missionaries Ray and Anita Bradley, is one of the three churches that we will be visiting to see the need of the deaf in Ecuador. BIMI Connect groups partner with Independent Baptist Churches in the host country that are currently involved in church planting and evangelizing the Deaf communities in Ecuador. The Deaf is the largest unevangelized people group in South America. There are more than 70 million Deaf around the world, and less than 2% have been reached with the Gospel. The pastors and missionaries that we will visit have a burden and a love for the Deaf. We are going to Ecuador in order to serve God and be a blessing to the missionaries, pastors, and churches.
We also pray that God will use this mission trip to open the eyes of our team members to the need for full-time laborers among the Deaf around the world.
